Peace Songs by Poul Pedersen
-

[... prelude ...]
1.
Nineteen-ninety-four had eighty years passed,
since the world war one was started
In the southern Jutland grand papa
in German army sent to war.
A Dane in German occupation,
in war for his enemy's nation
Sent from farm and wife and three kids,
said that war would soon be ended.
Modern civilized people
would find the war too awful and evil.
Democratic populations – would not go to war for nations.
War is hard to prophesy, – took four years and a hundred days.
Prophesy he could not either – all the wars the world had later.
Wounded he went home again. – Wounded body, soul and mind
2.
I am born in World War Two and I am Danish
have read agriculture science.
Graduated nineteen sixty-eight,
and should be glad and satisfied
But still the wars will keep me worried,
and starving people makes me sorry.
Too much spent on arms productions,
that can only make destructions.
should be spent on better fields
that food to all the people could yield.
War industry profitable, – many poor lives miserable.
We will still use more and more, – instead of sharing with the poor
Our world was best defended, – when its hunger problems ended
You may call me socialist. – See the world as realist
